by Patty | Sep 29, 2026 | Articles

When you’re working toward health or fitness goals, it’s easy for you to get caught up in the number on the bathroom scale. But that number alone doesn’t tell the full story. It can’t show how much of your weight comes from muscle, fat, water,...

Vegetarian Portable Healthy Grab & Go Foods “I n Vegetarian Portable Healthy Grab & Go Foods

“I need quick, easy vegetarian options. I’m always eating out because it’s convenient.”

That’s what one of my clients told me recently. She’s an emergency veterinarian who works long hours and rotating shifts, and she’s vegetarian.

Between back-to-back cases and unpredictable schedules, takeout had become her default, and hitting her protein goals felt nearly impossible. 🩺🐾

If that sounds familiar, whether you’re a nurse, a shift worker, a busy mom, or just always on the go, this one’s for you.

Here’s why protein and fiber matter so much on long days:

✔️ Protein keeps you full and protects your muscle
✔️ Fiber slows digestion and keeps your blood sugar steady
✔️ Together, they help prevent the crash-and-crave cycle that sends you to the drive-thru

So I built her a list of portable, high-protein, high-fiber vegetarian options she can keep in her fridge, her pantry, or her work bag. Swipe through to see them all. 👉

My simple rule: every snack needs a protein anchor and a fiber partner.
Healthy eating doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be ready when you are.

📌 Save this for your next grocery run, and share it with a friend who works crazy hours.
Need a plan that fits your schedule, not the other way around? Book a consultation through the link in my bio. I’m here in Sugar Land and also see clients virtually. 💚

Does muscle really weigh more than fat? Not exactl Does muscle really weigh more than fat? Not exactly. 👀

A pound is a pound. What’s different is density, muscle takes up about 18% less space than fat for the same weight.

That’s why two people can weigh the same and look completely different.

I’m living this myself right now. I had surgery on August 13th and still can’t exercise, six weeks later.

The scale says I’m down 5 pounds, but I know that’s muscle loss, not fat loss.

My clothes fit tighter, my tone is gone, and I don’t feel like myself.

If I only looked at the scale, I’d think I was winning. I’m not, and I know it.

That’s exactly why I don’t let my clients obsess over that number either.

It can drop for the wrong reasons, or barely move while real progress is happening underneath.

Look past the scale. Look at how your clothes fit, your energy, your strength, your sleep. That’s the real story.

🚶‍♀️Walking is your secret weapon for fat loss aft 🚶‍♀️Walking is your secret weapon for fat loss after 30.

I love walking! I don’t care what anybody says, I think it’s a highly underrated exercise.

A morning walk clears your head and sets a calmer tone for the day.

A walk after lunch steadies your blood sugar and beats the 2 p.m. slump, so you don’t need another coffee or snack.

An evening walk helps you wind down, and better sleep means fewer cravings tomorrow.

And a weekend walk with your self or with a friend counts too.

No gym. No perfect plan. Just consistent movement you’ll actually keep doing.

Save this and take a walk today.

Fat loss isn’t about doing more, it’s about doing what you can sustain. Start with 10 minutes after your next meal. 👟

From exhausted to unstoppable. In 5 months. 💛 She From exhausted to unstoppable. In 5 months. 💛

She was heading into perimenopause with migraines, gut issues, and a body that felt heavier every year.

She’d tried it all: portion control, fasting, Atkins, the Zone, cutting carbs, cutting fat, counting calories. Nothing stuck.

What she really wanted: to feel good in her body, cook meals she could stick with, and keep up with her family without running out of gas.

So we ditched the templates and built something sustainable, just for her.

5 months later: 20 pounds down. Size 12 to size 6. Body fat down 7%.

Her words: “Encouraging, patient, and highly knowledgeable, making the journey enjoyable and inspiring.”

Why salmon beats the 3 pm slump 🐟 That afternoon Why salmon beats the 3 pm slump 🐟

That afternoon crash isn’t random, it’s usually a blood sugar dip.

A lunch that’s mostly carbs digests fast, spikes your blood sugar, then drops you hard an hour or two later.

Salmon works differently:

✅ Protein slows digestion, so energy releases steadily instead of crashing

✅ Omega-3s support brain function and help lower inflammation, both of which affect focus and fatigue

✅ Almost no refined carbs to spike (and crash) your blood sugar

Pair it with a big veggie salad (fiber = even steadier blood sugar) and you’ve got a lunch that actually gets you through the afternoon instead of working against you.

Protein first. Every meal. Every time. 💪

I enjoyed speaking to this group of women at the S I enjoyed speaking to this group of women at the Sugar Creek Women’s Association. My talk focused on the importance of protein and fiber and the hormone connection in every decade of life from the 30’s through the 80’s.

Here are some highlights of my talk:

Fueling Every Decade: Protein, Fiber & the Hormone Connection

By decade targets:

•	30s (Deposit Decade): bone density peaks ~30. Protein ~1.0 g/kg/day, fiber 25–28 g/day

•	40s (Perimenopause begins ~47): Protein ~1.2 g/kg/day, fiber 25–28 g/day

•	50s (Menopause inflection, avg. 51–52): Protein 1.2–1.6 g/kg (or 1g/lb ideal body weight), fiber ≥21 g/day

•	60s–80s (Protecting Independence): 1 in 3 women over 50 will have an osteoporosis fracture. Protein 1.2–1.6 g/kg (or 1g/lb IBW), fiber ~21 g/day consistently

•	Protein at every meal (20–40 g), not just dinner
•	Pair protein + fiber-rich carb + healthy fat
•	Label check: 6g+ fiber (cereal), 3g+ (bread/crackers), 4g+ (pasta)
•	Increase fiber gradually + more water
•	Whole foods first — no supplements needed to start

Why they work together: Protein maintains muscle and bone (your structural reserve). Fiber feeds gut bacteria that regulate digestion, blood sugar, cholesterol, and helps clear excess estrogen (the estrobolome), which helps your body use what it’s still producing. Thank you, Julie Steidley & The Sugar Creek Women’s Association for inviting me to speak about a very important topic for all women. Such a lovely group! Thanks!
Everyone’s optimizing protein. Almost no one’s tal Everyone’s optimizing protein. Almost no one’s talking about fiber. 🌾

9 in 10 women don’t get enough of it and it’s quietly doing more for your gut, blood sugar, and cholesterol than most supplements ever will.

Swipe through for the numbers, the two types you need, and easy ways to get more in today. 👉

Save this for later, and tag a friend who needs to see it.
